White Door is a dry yet fruit-forward wine crafted from the Seyval Blanc grape. Steve originally planted Seyval Blanc in the vineyards of Parallel 44, but it proved to be too tender to consistently weather our frigid winters. Customers fell in love with this wine, so we now source this grape from upstate New York where it is buffered by the warmer waters of Lake Erie and Ontario.

Seyval Blanc was the creation of two Frenchmen, named Seyve and Villard.  In their efforts to save the vineyards of Europe from being wiped out by phyloxera, in 1921 they developed this grape through years of research and cross pollination of thousands of varieties. It has been known to ripen in less than 100 days, a rare feat in the world of wine growing.  Seyval Blanc is now commonly planted in England, and in the United States it has been referred to it as the “East Coast Chardonnay,” due to its lighter style and notes of grapefruit, green apple and melon.
